What is Wordle?

The game that started it all. Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries, with green, yellow and gray tiles telling you which letters are right, misplaced or not in the word at all.

Wordle is a free daily word game. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, so it's easy to compare results with friends.

How to play Wordle

  1. Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. Each tile changes color: green means the letter is in the right spot, yellow means it's in the word but in a different spot, and gray means it isn't in the word.
  3. Use the clues to find the hidden word in six guesses or fewer. A new word arrives every day.

Wordle tips

  • Open with a word packed with common letters, like SLATE, CRANE or AUDIO.
  • Letters can appear more than once, so don't rule out doubles like in LEVEL or SPOON.
  • Avoid reusing gray letters early on. Covering new letters gets you more information per guess.
